In a highly complex and constantly changing backdrop, Financial Management Services is responsible for creating an environment which promotes innovative and sound business policies and practices that balance controls, compliance, and customer service. The organization consists of approximately 200 professionals, responsible for a broad range of financial activities, including Financial Accounting and Reporting, Payroll, Procurement Services, and Tax Compliance.
JOB PURPOSE:The Accounting Associate will have responsibility for a range of general accounting and compliance activities in support of payroll state tax compliance. This role introduces several key financial processes that support the university, serving as a springboard to begin learning about our diverse and unique financial structure. Specific tasks will include payroll state tax administration, comprised of individual tax setups, remittances, reporting and filings. In addition, this role will manage the university's non-standard fellowship payment process. This role requires an understanding of the complex underlying principles of state payroll tax compliance, payroll compliance rules and generally accepted accounting principles, including the applicable systems, and the ability to apply those principles in carrying out projects and completing work. The position also uses query and analytical tools (e.g. OBIEE and Excel) to perform financial analysis.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE*: - Review, process, gather, and compile accounting transactions and documents for completeness, accuracy, and compliance.
- Review and prepare transactions, support documents, journal postings, etc. for accuracy, consistency, authorizations, and compliance. Monitor transactions in accounting systems for clearing and outstanding items.
- Compile, maintain, and review data and daily reports for accuracy. Generate standardized financial reports.
- Resolve transactional inquiries, escalate broader issues.
- Respond to transactional inquiries from client groups.
- May be responsible for p-card administration, processing, travel cards and expendable reimbursements.
- May establish accounts in financial systems; prepare invoices.
- Participate in new initiatives, as needed such as user testing.
- Maintain accounting/finance departmental files and desktop procedures and process documents for area of responsibility. Ensure compliance with University policies, and federal regulations and requirements.

TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS POSITION, YOU WILL BRING:Education & Experience:High School diploma or equivalent and two years' work experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: - Knowledge of basic accounting procedures.
- Ability to operate computerized office applications and accounting systems.
- Ability to clearly and effectively communicate information to internal audiences and client groups.

IN ADDITION, PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE: - Experience working in a University environment, preferably with financial information systems.
- Intermediate proficiency in business applications, such as Microsoft Office; Intermediate Excel skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience with, ERP systems, preferably PeopleSoft or Oracle, with proven ability to apply knowledge to understand new systems and processes.
- Attention to detail, accuracy, and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks to meet deadlines and customer service response standards.
- Strong customer-oriented approach to managing work.
