Do Great Things! Durham Technical Community College is hiring an Accountant in the Finance Department.The Accountant will manage and oversee the college's Institutional and county budgets, assist in the preparation of fiscal reports, and ensure compliance with audit and tax requirements. This position involves handling accounting functions for grants and special projects, including journal entries and reimbursement requests, and managing Sales and Use Tax submissions. The Accountant will also assist with financial and compliance testing, support the Year-End ACRF and audit preparation, and maintain policies and procedures for internal financial operations. The role requires strong interpersonal skills, problem-solving abilities, and a solid understanding of accounting principles within the context of a community college.
Budget Management - Institutional and County
Responsible for the review and management of the college's Institutional and county budgets
Prepare all necessary budget, journal entries and check requests needed for the College's Institutional/county budgets
Assist college staff and faculty responsible for the management of their budget programs.
Work with the Vice President/Chief Financial Officer in the preparation of the annual Institutional/county budgets
Assist with the all accounting functions related to grant programs and other special project accounts including journal entries and reimbursement requests
Responsible for the preparation and timely submission of all applicable fiscal reports for their assigned grants
Responsible for the reconciliation of PCard transactions and preparing applicable check requests and JE recording
Sales and Use Tax Administration
Manage the on time monthly Sales and Use Tax Compliance submission
Assist college personnel with Sales and Use Tax questions and issues
Foster continuous improvement in Sales and Use Tax reporting by ensuring college personnel understand Federal requirements.
Prepare Sales and Use Tax Policies and Procedures guide to outline the internal business flow between college departments and submission
Stay informed and knowledgeable of Sales and Use Tax Laws and IRS tax changes.
Audit and Compliance Administration
Perform financial and compliance testing of internal controls as necessary
Prepare written reports of findings and recommendations to guide the college toward compliance.
Responsible for the preparation of assigned projects required for preparation of the Year-End ACRF and financial statements and assist the College's auditors in the preparation of the bi-annual audit report.
Responsible for the college EAGLE (Enhancing Accountability in Government through Leadership and Education) program duties as assigned by the Assistant President/Finance
Complete written narratives for the financial processes that are assigned as required for EAGLE compliance.
Complete all other tasks as assigned by the Assistant Vice President or Vice President including, but not limited to the documentation of Business Office Standard Operating Procedures
Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration or related field.
Work Experience
Minimum of three years of related experience in the areas of Accounting and Finance
